First High School JV Volleyball Game
Back to School...then and now
Wednesday, August 25th was the first day of school for the kids and although they would rather I not take pictures, I still insist on taking Back to School photos. This year is Shelby's first year of High School and Cody is already a Junior. I think I will even follow them to College to take pictures :)
I spent a few days looking through old pictures to find more Back to School photos and did manage to find a few even though I am missing more than I found :( I know I took them every year except maybe one that we had to fake a day late now the chore will be finding all of them!!

Caldwell Night Rodeo
Last night we were able to go to the Caldwell Night Rodeo..and what a great Rodeo! We went with The Jablonski's and The Roseberry's minus Joe and Cody since they were off on their annual fishing/camping weekend this year at Deadwood! We met at Ann and Steve's for a pre function and a few cheap beers! Then off to the Rodeo and to the ROWDY section and only once did it get a little rowdy, when the guy and his wife a few rows down and to the right decided to stand during the Bull Riding! After yelling at them to sit down and no response, Ann decided that maybe throwing ICE at them would work better and IT DID! They sat down but not without a few words! Fun times again!
I think Steve might be telling me that I'm #1 maybe he just doesn't appreciate my picture taking skills!

Weiser River Trail ~ First Half ~ August 5th-8th (DAY 3)
Which really should read HELLS CANYON DAY 3 ~
So even with a little car trouble we were off to Hells Canyon for some more swimming, jumping and fishing. The truck had starting over heating just a little :) We found a great little cove and everyone enjoyed some relaxing time!
Then on our journey home the truck decided that it would REALLY overheat...not sure if we were going to make it passed Midvale, Cody jumped in with the Roseberry's and they headed home to get another vehicle for us! But in a little park in Midvale by a church and water spout with a hose, Dave removed the thermostat which worked enough to get us home and only about a hour behind everyone else. Later in the week, Dave did have to replace his water pump!
What a great weekend! We can't wait to continue the trip hopefully over Labor Day weekend!

Weiser River Trail ~ First Half ~ August 5th-8th (DAY 2)
Day 2 started out back in Council and at 9:50am all were back on the bikes minus Shelby, who decided 24 miles was enough so she would hang out with the girls! Right outside of Council, they saw their first deer. It was a couple miles of flat riding, some downhill riding to Mesa Siding where they saw a coyote and a Bear! Between Mesa Siding and Goodrich they stopped @ a bridge to swim and fish, as the girls were all in Goodrich waiting and waiting and waiting for them until we (the girls) finally panicked and thought something was wrong! So back to Council we went looking for them but with no luck! Luckily we had left a sign on the outhouse in Goodrich to Stay There! So after Council, Ann went back to Goodrich to see if they had shown up and Shelby and myself were off to Cambridge to see if they had a huge burst of energy and made it quickly!
Needless to say they ended up at Goodrich after catching a 18" rainbow trout on green grub and as Dave's journal reads, "The girls panicked because we were 1 1/2 hours late cuz of the stop." So in Goodrich they all swam more without Shelby and myself or a CAMERA! Luckily we had already checked out the cool old ghost town of Goodrich!
From Goodrich to Cambridge was a pretty long haul which for the last 4 miles was hot and flat. They arrived in Cambridge @ 3:30 for another 20 mile day and 45 miles in the weekend. But the girls were nowhere to be found as we were swimming in the river and they were locked out the motel! When we came back, I made them sandwiches with stuff that I had bought during the day when Shelby and myself were in Cambridge all alone! Next came the parade, right in front of the Motel and then we were off to the Rodeo. There we saw quite a few residents of Middleton!
That night the boys decided to finish the trail in a month or so hoping it would be a little cooler! So the next morning we were off to Hells Canyon!
Needless to say they ended up at Goodrich after catching a 18" rainbow trout on green grub and as Dave's journal reads, "The girls panicked because we were 1 1/2 hours late cuz of the stop." A bike trip down the Weiser River Trail had been planned all summer and the first half of the ride is now complete, behind us but with many, many memories! We are now busy planning the second half of the trail which should take place over Labor Day weekend due to Shelby playing in a Volleyball Tournament in Weiser on September 4th!
Luckily, Dave kept a journal during the trip since Ann and myself were support staff :)
We were supposed to leave on the 5th of August at 4pm but this is how the journal starts written by Cody ~ 3:58pm, Everyone is ready except Dave.....Mom is angry..."We are going to be driving in the hottest part of the day." she says. 4:02pm, Mom is still complaining and Dave is still packing..
We arrive in New Meadows to a wonderful Bed & Breakfast/Motel with a great couple running a Beer/Wine Bar and Ann and Steve at the bar...We find a place to eat, a local bar that when we ask for menus the answer was, "It is Chicken or Steak night." Great, we don't have to sit forever with menus in front of us. We eat a great meal, have a few pitchers of beer and head back to the Motel for the night. The Bike ride will begin in the morning.
After grabbing something to eat at the local New Meadows gas station and a fishing license for Shelby, we are off to the starting spot, Price Valley Ranch...after getting there backpacks packed with food, water, etc.. They are off @ 10:00am (Steve, Dave, Joe, Cody, Sam and Shelby). Ann and I jump into our vehicles to our first stop Evergreen Campground to wait for them. They arrive at 11:07am, riding approx. 8 miles (easy riding). Sam probably arrived at 10:45am! After a quick break, they are off again, next stop Starky for a little swimming! Ann and I are there waiting as they come off another easy ride @ 12:45pm. They cool off a little and head out for the toughest part of their day to Council, which turned out to be a long, dry, flat and HOT ride! But they ALL made it (we almost lost Cody and Joe to a car/bike accident, as they were racing across the finish line and didn't realize that it was a STREET) but a couple screaming Mom's and a smart driver helped out, 24 miles in one day! I am pretty sure that they didn't take good care of themselves the first day, it was about 100 degrees and they didn't drink enough water and we even had a few blisters that were doctored up with DUCT TAPE!
After Council we drove down to Cambridge to stay for 2 nights, the town was crazy since the Fair/Rodeo was in town for the weekend. After swimming in the Weiser River and the kids jumping off the bridge, catching a few fish, we cleaned up and went out to eat to Mrs. G's! Not sure if I would recommend it again, a few ended up not feeling well but not sure if it was due to the food or the day in general!
